The basin River Soca

The basin River Soca is located on the west side of Slovenia. At the confluence of the Soča and Zadnjica is the village of Na Logu, the first clustered settlement in the valley and the urban center of Trenta Valley. The Trenta Valley is located here. Not far away is the Juliana alpine botanical garden, which was designed and arranged by Dr. Julius Kugy.

From here the road runs along the Soča River through the slightly wieder Lower Trenta Valley, between Bavški Grintovec (2347m) and Travnik (2252m), to the extended village of Soča. Here the Soča makes a sweeping curve across the broad white moraine. Extending southeast is the Lepena River valley. From here a mountain trail takes you past the Krn Lakes and across Komna to Bohinj. This is a true paradise for mountain hikers.

Further along the valley the road leads through a narrow ravine, whose entrance was once guarded by the Kluže fortress, past Log pod Mangartom, one of the loveliest Slovene villages.

Ascending towards the southeast is the highest mountain road in Slovenia, which brings us directly below the top pyramid of Mangart (altitude 2072m). Only a hundred meters away is the Mangart Sadle, offering breathtaking views of the Julian Alps and the Koritnica Valley, which winds 110 meters lover below a vertical rock wall.
