The Bela Krajina history is interesting

Bela Krajina History

During World War II Bela Krajina was the very core of the newly emerging Republic of Slovenia. Following the war, the region managed to rid itself of its former economic stagnation. And economic development soon changed the way of life in the region.

By far the greatest numbers of Slovenia’s old customs and ways have been preserved in the villages of Bela Krajina. The region has been named after its white national customs made of domestic linen, which were worn every day by both man and women right up to the Second World War.

Today the people of Bela Krajina wear their traditional costumes only at folklore events, when presenting their dances and customs.

The railway line enters Bela Krajina from Novo mesto through a 2km long tunnel near Semič, turns south and continuous to Črnomelj, where it turns southeast and, near Metlika, crosses the state border on the Kolpa River.

O.K., we hope you have enjoyed the history of Bela Krajina. Seeing you next time...
