Bovec, a developing tourist town
The Bovec basin is a depression in the heart of the mountains. On the south it is enclosed by the Polovnik ridge (1741m) and on the north by Rombon and the Kanin ridge with mountain Kanin (2587m), the highest alpine ski center in Slovenia. On clear days the Adriatic Sea is clearly visible from the ski slopes. During the ice age enormous quantities of gravel were deposited here by glaciers. In the past this area was a natural lake. The town began to develop on a high terrace above the Soča River. It was ruled by the patriarchs of Aquileia, later by the Bishops of Tolmin and Gorica. The town was burned to the ground during World War I, when the front line touched it. This area is the trade center of the upper Soča valley. Today it is a rapidly developing tourist town abounding in natural beauties and offering countless possibilities for active holidays in all seasons. Each year it attracts an increasing number of visitors. The Soča continues its course southeast along the Soča Valley, winding between the steep forest-covered slopes of Polovnik and Kobariški stol (1673m) the only villages in this area are Srpenica and Trnovo ob Soči, a well-known kayak center. Alpine and Mediterranean architecture already begin blend in thus villages. Now, we are glad that you choose to look and feel with us this beautiful area. To the next time... Se,yaa..
