What can Cerkno offer you?
Cerkno Two side valleys branch out from the Idrijca valley at Dolenja Trebuša – the Trebuščica Valley and the Hotenja Valley. These are secluded and sparsely inhabited areas. The Cerknica tributary flows into the Idrijca at Želin. The Cerknica Valley then leads northwest directly below Porezen. Here in a remote valley, lies the village, originally an ecclesiastical center. The greatest attraction of the Cerknica Valley is the Franja partisan hospital from the Second World War. It lies hidden in a narrow ravine of the Pasica River above the village of Log. Above Novaki is Črni vrh (1291m), a reputed ski center with 47m of well-maintained ski slopes and a 1500 meter-long cross-country run. Near the village of Ravne is Ravenska jama, an underground cave known for its magnificent aragonite limestone formations. Leaving the town the road rises eastward to Planina and leads across the Kladje pass into Poljanska dolina (Poljana Valley). At Mokraška vas, between Spodnja (Lower) Idrija and Idrija, a winding road ascends the steep hillsides and brings you to Žiri. That is all folks. To the next time...
