Dobropolje and its surroundings

Between the valley of Velike Lašče and the Dobropolje valley lies, to the east, the Karst ridge of Mala gora (Small Mountain), comprised of several peaks: Kamni vrh, Grmada, Tisovec and others.

Between Velike Lašče and Kočevje, the road and railway run through a narrow valley. On Veliki Žrnovec , the last hill on the west side of the narrow valley, are the ruins of a mighty castle of the Ortenburgs dating from the 13th century, which once dominated the village of Ortnek. The castle was abandoned in the 19th century.

The small river interweaves with traffic veins throughout the valley and sinks underground immediately after leaving the valley near the village of Žlebič.

So from this valley and mighty castle, we think you might be exhausted so we offer you a little break. See you next time... From Dobropolje back to Kocevska region
