Dravinja Valley, a natural beauty
The Dravinja Valley The Dravinja originates in numerous springs below Ovčarjev vrh (1286m) in the Pohorje hills and in the ravines surrounding the scattered village of Skomarje. The Ločnica and many smaller streams flow into the Dravinja from below Rogla. The first village in the valley is Loška gora. Immediately afterwards the valley widens and brings us to Zreče, where the rivers water power has been exploited for centuries. The remains of old settlements from the Bronze Age have been found in the surroundings. Zreče became a very prosperous industrial center after the last war. Today it is a well maintained, attractive tourist resort. The Oplotnica stream flows down from Pohorje hills along a deep valley. Its source is below the northern slope of Rogla (1517m). On the spot where the valley widens is the village of Oplotnica with its 17th century castle, built by Carthusians from Žice. A road runs from the Oplotnica Valley to the very of mountain Rogla, where there is a modern winter sports center. A lookout tower stands on Adamov vrh (Adams peak), which rises above the east bank of the Oplotnica stream. Isolated farms are scattered throughout the entire Pohorje range up to an altitude of 1100 meters. SO, we did it. We hope you have enjoyed this post. The Slovenia top site for tourism is before you. Do not miss anything. The sights like Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj and Postojna Cave are attractive and fun to visit. So see you soon in the beautiful Alps...
