Kobarid, a village near the Soca River

Between Trnovo and Kobarid, the Soča River flows through a deep ravine. The east bank is a terraced world dotted with several villages. The largest is Drežnica, worth mentioning is also Koseč with its famous pilgrimage church. Rising above the villages is mountain Krn (2245m), the last peek of the Julian Alps exceding 2000m and a bloody stronghold in World War I, with an impressive 800 meter-high west wall.

The collection of the town Museum is devoted to the Soča Front. An Italian ossuary and military graveyard scattered throughout the Upper Soča Valley testify to the numerous victims and bloody battle that raged in these parts at the time.

From here onward, the Soča continues its course over snow-white moraine. This crystal-clear river with its characteristic blue-green color runs along a more the kilometer wide fertile, green valley visibly influenced by the Mediterranean climate.

On the right bank, in the direction of Tolmin, are the villages of Mlinsko and Idrsko. Here the road forks. To the south it runs toward the village of Livek, perched on the slopes of Matajur (1642m), and further on along the valley towards Tolmin.

We hope you have enjoyed the ride, we know we have and we are frilled to visit this place again.
