Kranjska gora is the third most visited area in Upper Carniola

A short distance ahead, from Jesenice is Kranjska gora. On its south side is the Pišnica Valley, which splits into two arms, Mala Pišnica and Krnica below the walls of Prisojnik (2547m) and Škrlatica (2740m). A road leads from the Pišnica valley Across Slovenia's highest mountain pass, Vršič (1611m), to the picturesque Trenta Valley.

Kranjska gora (809m) is a reputed winter-summer sports and tourist center which regularly hosts annual World Cup alpine skiing competitions. It offers more than 30km of well-maintained ski slopes. It was settled in the 11th century by Corinthians. A highly developed tourist resort, the village takes pride in its extremely rich and diversified offer of tourist and catering services. In winter it attracts throngs of skiers, and a summer visitors can enjoy bathing in the crystal-clear Jasna Lake nestled in the Pišnica valley. And the surroundings offer a host of opportunities for spending an active vacation in nature. An interesting place to visit is the Ethnological Museum set up in Liznjek´s house.

Podkoren is a typical alpine village with old houses built in alpine style. Worth visiting is the Šerc homestead, where meals are prepared the old fashioned way in the black kitchen.

The last village before Italy is Rateče. A walled in church stands on a hill in front of this typical alpine village. To the south the glacial valley of Planica has carved its way deep into the mountains and ends just below mountain Jalovec (2645m), the loveliest mountain in the Julian Alps.

Planica is famous for its ski jumps, in particular its giant ski jump. It was here that the Austrian Brandl first jumped over 100m in 1936. Planica once again regained the leading position in ski flights in 1994, when Bredesen jumped a distance of 209, 94 meters. Today the record is at the mark of 234 meters.

So, this was my part of the game. Now it is your turn to visit this remarkable tourist area.
