The Krka Valley, one of the most beautiful river valleys
The upper Krka valley is one of the loveliest river valleys in Slovenia, surrounded by gently undulating hills overgrown with trees. Although the road runs continuously alongside to the river, solitude reigns over the valley. This idyllic setting is complimented by the green shade of the clear Krka River, which originates in a subterranean cave below Rogljevka near the village of Gradiček. Nearby are the villages of Krka and Globočevec, where the Ivančna gorica – Žužemberg main road branches westward towards the source of the Krka River and across the karst plateau above the source towards Grosuplje. The Krka is the only Slovene River with rising cascades. Picturesque natural dams – the so called travertine dams – continuously appearing in the riverbed give rise to the formation of shallow cascades. In its upper part the valley cuts deep into the rock bed, splitting the karst plateau of Suha krajina in two parts. The northern part lies between this valley and Trebnje basin, while the southern part extends to the Mala gora ridge and Kočevski Rog. Uf, we did it again. Hope seeing you there soon. You will not regret it, that for sure.
