Lasko, the largest settlement in the valley

Lasko is the largest settlement in the valley and lies on the east bank of the Savinja below cone-shaped Hum.

On a rocky ledge above the Savinja River are the remnants of Stari grad (Old Castle). Laško was granted market rights as early as in 1227, but did not become a town until 1927. A museum has been opened in the baroque castle with tower dating from 1675.

The church in Laško has a rich history. It originates from the Roman and Gothic periods, and acquired its present day image in the baroque period.

A thermal health spa has operated in Laško since the mid 19th century. Among Slovenes Laško is most famous for its brewery, established in the far off year of 1825.

Above Laško the Savinja Valley once again begins to narrow. The road and railway run along the valley northward towards Celje.

Ha, ha, ha. Do you know why I am laughing? NO? O.K., I will tell you. The brewery is very interesting to you, is it not? So come on visit this place. And do not forget Slovenia has many things to offer. Besides Bled Lake, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, you can visit Postojna Cave, the capital Ljubljana and many more.
