Mislinja Valley, a natural beauty

The Mislinja Valley

The Mislinja flows from the heart of Pohorje through a narrow ravine called Mislinjski graben. On the spot where the ravine widens lies the picturesque settlement of Mislinja.

From here the Mislinja River flows southwest along a broad, mostly flat valley. The Jenina stream flows down a parallel valley between the last peak of the Kamnik – Savinja Alps and empties into the Mislinja in Slovenj Gradec. At the entrance to the parallel valley is Stari trg.

For centuries Slovenj Gradec has been the center of the valley. An important Roman route once led past here. The Roman settlement of Colatio lay below Castle hill, and a temple stood on the hill.

In the 9th century a castle was erected in its place. In the 11th century part of the castle was transformed into a church and its tower served as a belfry. Slovenj Gradec was first mentioned in written sources as a market in 1251, and soon afterwards became a town.

From here to there, every where in Slovenia you can find many opportunities to travel and discover! See you soon..
