Poljane Valley, a secluded and remote region
Poljanska dolina ( Poljane Valley ) lies on the other side of the Poljanska gora ridge, one of the most secluded and remote regions in Slovenia. Its center is Stari trg ob Kolpi. A castle stands at Predgrad, followed by a number of smaller settlements in the deep valley of the Kolpa River. The Valley was named after the Ortenburgs Castle, built there in the 14th century. Near Adlešiči, on an outcrop rising from a tongue of land encircled on three sides by the Kolpa River, are the ruins of the Pobrežje Castle. Baron Ivan Lenkovič built the castle in 1556-57 and colonized the surrounding area with Uskoks (Bosnian refugees under Turkish occupation). The castle effectively protected the passage across the Kolpa River against the Turks. So history was made her and you can become a part of it, if you visit this area. See you there...
