The village of Poljcane and the surrounding area

Poljcane

At Loče the Dravinja curves eastward and the valley begins to narrow. Embracing it to the north are the slopes of the wine growing district of Dravinjske gorice, and to the south by Zbelovska gora and Boč, a scenic viewpoint.

Below Zbelovska gora stands Zbelovo Castle, and in the first widened part of the valley along the railway line Celje – Maribor, is Poljčane, the center of this part of the valley. The road then leads southward to Rogatec and Sotla.

East of Poljčane, below Boč, is Studenice, where a convent for noblewomen was built in the 13th century. In the middle Ages the convent was one of the richest in the Štajerska (Styria) region.

In 1782 the convent was dissolved by Emperor Josef II, and in the 19th century a castle was built in its place. Today, Studenice is merely a small village.

Near the village of Makole is the baroque Štanberg mansion from the first half of the 18th century. Nor far away are the ruins of the old Štatenberg Castle, which was owned in the 16th century by the notorious nobleman, Ferenc Tahi.

We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we did. Slovenia with its capital Ljubljana are growing very fast for tourists. The best places to visit are also Lake Bled, Bohinj, Postojna Cave and many more attractive tourist destinations that you can go if you are coming to us.
