The Predjama castle, its beauty astonishes you

Predjama Castle

Carved into the bare rock of an overhanging cliff on the slopes of Podgora, only 9km from Postojna near Predjama, is Predjamski grad (the Castle), the home of the robber baron Erasmus Predjamski.

Many legends have come to be told of Erasmus. The original cave castle was first mentioned in written sources in the 13th century. In 1570 a new castle built in front of it. Reputed as the most picturesque castle in Slovenia, it has today become an attractive tourist destination.

Near the village of Zagon, between Postojna and Predjama, is a cave by the name of Betalov spodmol. Archeological excavations have revealed traces of human settlements here as early as in the Stone Age.
