Ribnica Valley and the mountains around

The Mala gora ridge extends eastward almost to Kočevje. The Ribnica Valley is enclosed on the west by the Velika gora ridge, rising steeply above the valley.

The peaks on top of the ridge are: Marinovec (1029m) to the north, and the peaks of Ostri vrh (1121m), Veliki vrh (1134m) and the easily recognizable, rocky Bela stena (1122m) to the south.

Several rivers and streams wind through the valley, disappearing into numerous sinkholes at its south end.At the beginning of the valley, on the west side, lies Nova Štifta with its famous 17th century baroque church. From here the road leads towards Bloke and Sodražica.

Southeast of Ribnica the road runs past Frances Cave, open to visitors and uphill to Saint Ann (932m) in the Mala gora ridge, a scenic viewpoint.

We have done with this valley, let us now continue to the town of Ribnica. See you there...
