Sentjur, a small but important village
Sentjur Hidden behind the first hills of the Kozjansko region is Slivnica Lake, often referred to by the locals as the Kozjansko Sea. The lake is a natural water reservoir of the Voglajna River, extending over an area of 86 hectares and reaching depths of up to 14 meters. The Voglajna runs off the extreme northern part of the lake, turns abruptly to the west and curves around Gradišče to the south through the valley between Gradišče and Prednja gora. The river meanders through the valley, winds almost completely around Prednja gora and curves around Rifnik to the north and, after reaching the Šentjur plain, finally heads westward towards Štore to Celje. Šentjur pri Celju is a small local urban center. A road and railway line leading form Celje run through the Šentjur Valley in the direction of Rogatec and Maribor. A few kilometers to the east, near the village of Grobelno, is a railway junction. Lying in this part of the valley are the villages of Tratno, Črnolica, Nova vas, Hruševec and Podgorje. Perched on a ledge on the steep slope of Rifnik, south of Šentjur, are the remains of the former castle of the lords of Krško, which later passed into the hands of the lords of Celje. An important settlement existed on the hilltop in the antique period. There is a scenic viewpoint on Resevnik hill, Rifniks western neighbor. South of the Slivnica Lake stands the village of Slivnica. In this area the hills are dotted with villages and a host of isolated farms, while the valley remains uninhabited and mostly overgrown with forests. Uf, we made it. For more check also the site bar.
