Slovenske Gorice, an important area for water electric
Extending from Ptuj all the way to Slovenske gorice on the north and the Drava River on the south is the vast Ptujsko polje (Ptuj Plain). Crossing the plain from west to east is the channel of the Formin hydro – electric power plant. The Pesnica River flows down from Pesniška dolina (Pesnica Valley) in the gorice hills to Ptujsko polje, where it turns eastward. Just before Ormož it empties into the Drava. At the entrance to Pesniška dolina, on the plain, lies Dornava. This large village is reputed primarily for its majestic baroque manor house dating from 1743, which is encircled by a large park. Unfortunately, the manor house serves little purpose worthy of a castle. The same holds true for some of the most well – preserved castles in this part of Slovenia and elsewhere, such as Begunje, Hrastovec and Trate. Lying along the road leading from Ptuj to Ormož are the villages of Borovci, Moškanjci and Gorišnica. On the south side of the plain, between the Formin power plant channel and the Drava River are the villages of Nova vas, Bukovci, Stojnci and Muretinci with its 17th century castle. Southeast of Ptuj, near Markovci, the Drava River is dammed and forms an artificial lake covering an area of approximately 3 square kilometers. This is the largest artificial water accumulation in Slovenia. Between Ptuj and Markovci, on the north shores of the lake are the villages of Budina with Ristovec Castle, Spuhlja and Zabovci. We made it. We rock, do we not. DO you want to learn more of Slovenia, Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj and especially Kranjska Gora and Postojna Cave? Check the best site there is on the net.
