The area of Sticna, a must to visit
The Sticna basin was settled by the Cistercians in 1136. The village began to grow alongside the monastery, which still operates today. In recent years, Ivančna Gorica has become the most important settlement in the basin. The Šentvid basin adjoins the Stična basin. The prehistoric finds discovered near Šentvid testify to the early settlement of the area and its considerable importance in the past. A road running directly south of Ivančna Gorica, along the valley of the Višnjica stream, brings you to the Krka River valley. Along this road is the village of Muljava, the birthplace of the Slovene novelist, Josip Jurčič. The church at Muljava has some interesting frescoes dating from 1456 and painted by Janez Ljubljanski (John of Ljubljana). On the hills west of the valley near the village of Leščevje are the remnants of two castles lying only a few hundred meters apart. From the Stična monastery, to Slovenian novelist, we said in the headline, this place is a must to visit. Seeing you there soon...
