Upper Savinja Valley and Golte

The upper Savinja Valley begins in the Mozirje basin. Immediately after exiting the gorge, the road forks. One road leads to the north towards the Šalek Valley.

Lying in the Mozirje basin are the villages of Loke and Ljubija, as well as the largest settlement in the Savinja Valley – Mozirje with its carefully maintained park Savinjski gaj.

A settlement already existed here in Roman times. Above Mozirje is the Golte winter sports and recreation centre. Golte is accessible by the longest cableway in Slovenia, whose lower station is located north of Mozirje in Radegundi.

At Nazarje the Dreta stream flows out from a side valley, Zadrečka dolina, and enters the Savinja River. Nestled in this valley are the villages of Šmartno and Bočna.

A road runs through the valley to the Gornji grad basin, which is closed in by the forest – covered plateaus of Dobrovlja and Menina on the south, and embraced by the Veliki Rogatec (1557m), range to the northwest.

Know we have finished with this part, let us move on. But if you want to learn more about the capital Ljubljana, Bled Lake, Bohinj Lake, or maybe Postojna Cave and the Cost with Portorož, Piran, Izola and Koper do not delay.

Check out our entire site and do not miss anything, or even better visit Slovenia, this is a country on the sunny side of Alps in central Europe. Be seeing you...
