Velike Lasce, the center of many cross roads
South of Turjak is Velike Lasce the center of a hilly, forest-covered land. The valleys around it are dotted with many small villages and hamlets. Flowing through the valley from west to east is the Rašica River, which rushes down in a waterfall and disappears into a sinkhole near the village of Ponikve. The town is a small local center which developed at the meeting point of roads leading from the Dobropolje Valley and the Bloke plateau to the Ljubljana – Kočevje main road. Rašica is the birthplace of Primož Trubar, who published the first Slovene book in 1550. In addition to a translation of the catechism he also published an alphabet book. So from here to there.
