The town of Visnja Gora
Visnja gora began to develop below a once mighty castle, of which only a tower remains today. The castle was already in ruins in the 17th century. The initial settlement was on the site of present-day Stari trg. During the period of Turkish invasions a new settlement was built on the rock prominence rising above the basin and enclosed with walls. Višnja gora obtained town rights in this period, but is once again a village today. Mirna lies at the beginning of the Mirna River valley on the spot where the Mirna Castle once stood. There is also a castle in Rakovnik. The valley is settled only along the edges. The many castles along the edges of the valley bear witness to the importance of this area in the past. On Debenec hill, south of the valley, stands a lookout tower offering a lovely view of the surroundings. Uf, we did it, congratulations. See you in the next area of Lower Carniola...
